Jed Elliott - Left Devizes School 2009

Jed, currently a member of 'The Struts' attended Devizes School and 6th Form until summer 2009. Since leaving us Jed continued to play music and toured the country meeting many musicians. In 2011 he joined his current band 'The Struts.' The Struts were signed in 2015 to Interscope Records and now live in Los Angeles. He now tours the world with the band and has opened for The Rolling Stones, Guns n Roses and The Killers amongst others.

Jed says; ' Devizes School and the teaching staff were very encouraging and supportive when it came to being a young musician. I always thought that I was very fortunate to have a very welcoming environment in which I could shape a new interest. There weren't many people playing music in our year group and despite the fact we were truly awful musicians at the time, my friends and I felt really comfortable forming a real identity and the staff recognised a passion and celebrated it. The teachers would allow us to rehearse in classrooms on lunch breaks and perform in assemblies. My first ever gig was in the main hall at a Devizes School Rock Concert!

Peter Vaughan — Left Devizes School 1989

Peter has made his name as a successful television chef and personality. He is also known locally for his Healthy Life Bistro and Cookery School in Devizes.

Peter says:

"I enjoyed my time at Devizes School. Although I was keen to leave as soon as possible because I knew that I wanted to be a chef and knew that to do that I needed to gain the best apprenticeship possible, that meant going to London at the tender age of 16!

Devizes School gave me such a great grounding that served me well during my years away from home at such a young age. My favourite subject was RE with John Hards. I was hooked on the link between food and religions and ironically it was the subject I excelled in along with Home economics!"

Having arrived in October 2014 to read Natural Sciences, Ben has made an excellent start to his university career, achieving a First Class in his first-year exams. Jemima Duxberry — Left Devizes School 2012

Written by Jemima:

Since leaving Devizes School I have gone on to study Sports Performance at the University of Bath to go on to be a P.E. Teacher in the future. Miss Beck is the teacher who has inspired me to follow this career choice after being my P.E. teacher when I was at Devizes School.

‘ I am currently on the Great Britain senior team and since leaving Devizes School I have fought at 2 Junior European Championships and 1 Junior World Championships where I placed 7th. Next year I am hoping to compete in the University Europeans and the under 23 Europeans. I'm also aiming to compete at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Without the help of juggling sport and education when I was at school - from Mr Irons, Mrs Hutchinson, Miss Beck and Miss Darling (amongst others) I wouldn't have been able to be as successful in my education as I am in my sport. ‘
