Devizes School Sixth Form

A Level Results Day 2020

Frequently Asked Questions:

What should I do if I wish to appeal about my results?

Please read carefully through pages 8 – 12 of the Ofqual guidance below. It explains the limited grounds upon which an appeal may be permitted and that any concerns you may have should first be raised with us at school.

If, after reading the Ofqual guidance, you would like us to consider making an appeal on your behalf, please e-mail [email protected] clearly stating that you wish the school to consider putting forward an appeal. We will then contact you regarding the next steps in the appeals process.

Please note the deadline for requesting an appeal is noon on Monday 7th September. This is to allow time for us to consider and process appeals before the final Ofqual deadline of 17th September.

What should I do if I wish to see my centre assessment grades?

As the Ofqual guide states, ‘remember that your final grade is the grade that counts’ rather than the centre assessment grades initially submitted back in June.

Nonetheless, if you would like to access your centre assessment grades, please submit a request via the electronic form on the Devizes School website. This can be accessed via the ‘Exam SAR’ tab at the top right of the school’s homepage. We will endeavour to respond to these requests as quickly as possible.

Please note, centre assessed grades will not be available in certain vocational subject areas where there is a different assessment schedule.

What should I do if I think my mock exam grade might be higher than my result?

Following last night’s announcement, there is currently a lot of information in the media about students being able to appeal results if their mock grades are higher. Please be aware that the definition of ‘mock exam’ has not yet been made clear and we await further guidance on this.

Should you want to request one or more of your internal Y13 mock grades, you can do this electronically via the ‘Exam SAR’ tab at the top right of the school’s homepage and selecting the ‘Right of Access for anything else’ option. Again though, please note that it is currently unclear as yet how these mock grades may be used.

What should I do if I’d like to retake an exam?

Firstly, please read pages 13 and 14 of the Ofqual guide.

If you are considering retaking exams, please think carefully about what you hope to achieve by doing so. The main consideration should be whether retaking exams in one or more qualification may give you a better chance of achieving your future goals – be they educational or career-related. It is also worth thinking about how much time you will be able to dedicate to retake preparations whilst managing your other courses or commitments. We will, of course, look at how we can support you, should you wish to retake.

Please feel free to e-mail via [email protected] to arrange a discussion before submitting a retake request.

Any requests for retakes must be made by e-mailing [email protected]

The deadline for us to receive retake requests is noon on Wednesday 2nd September – this is to allow school time to review and process requests before meeting the exam board deadline of Friday 4th September.

We wish you all the very best for Thursday’s Results and your next adventure. Regardless of the outcomes, we honestly couldn’t be prouder of you all and here’s hoping we can all celebrate in person at some point next year.

For now, please remember that we are here for you if you need us, now and in future.

Yours sincerely,

The 6th Form Team
