Netball Tournament 30th November 2019

The annual Year 7 Netball tournament was a huge success this year.

We welcomed back schools who have been attending for years but also hosted a number of new schools from Wiltshire that hadn’t previously entered. This meant the Year 7 teams were able to play a variety of schools across Wiltshire. The standard of performance from all teams was fantastic, it is clear that Netball continues to be a great passion for the young people in Wiltshire. It was a cold Saturday this year for all 12 teams who had entered, the tournament flowed nicely to keep players, teachers and spectators warm!

Our year 7 netball players have a fantastic attitude, they attend all of the training sessions and are really developing into strong netballers. This year group have demonstrated an exceptional level of success at primary school level by winning the county tournament last year. They have built on their success since joining the school in September and have continued to work hard during training, lessons and matches. Their hard work paid off as they won the tournament this year! PE Teacher Mrs Umbleja-Johnson who is in charge of the year 7 team and also started with us in September has dedicated training sessions to this year group and is a very proud coach and teacher following their success so far.

Next March a group of girls from years 7-9 will attend a Netball tour to Condover Hall. Students attending the tour baked cakes and treats to sell at the tournament to raise money for their tour. They did a fantastic job in raising money and representing the school. Beth and Jess in Year 12 ran the score table and timings of the Netball tournament and did a fantastic job in ensuring the tournament ran like clockwork.

All the players from all schools were able to develop their playing styles during the tournament, picking up their markers to make passing challenging. There was some fantastic shooting and some strong defending. A huge thanks goes out to all the teachers, spectators, leaders and of course our wonderful year 7 players who represented their schools at this tournament.
