Devizes School Sixth Form Collaboration with Lavington School

Devizes and Lavington Schools are excited by the opportunity to formally announce an expanded Sixth Form, having worked together over the last year offering Sixth Form provision across two sites.

The two Academy Trusts, Equa and The White Horse Federation, have committed to working together, with Devizes School as the lead partner, to develop a thriving Sixth Form across two sites. Devizes School will remain the main hub, with provision also established on the Lavington School site. Devizes Sixth Form has a proven track record in Wiltshire as a high performing and successful Post-16 provider.

This academic year has seen the introduction of a Sixth Form extension at Lavington School for a cohort of students who entered Year 12 in September 2018. Currently in Y12, 29 students are based at the Lavington site and 80 at Devizes. All the Lavington based students attend enrichment activities at the main Devizes site where almost a third of them attend for one of their courses. This year has proved to be a very successful forerunner to a fully collaborative Sixth Form. The current Y12 students from both schools have worked closely together and benefited from being part of a bigger more diverse sixth form. The Sixth Form ethos of ‘Expect more, Get more, and Be more’ is happening for all students across both schools with leadership and social opportunities in skills and a rich menu of learning outside of normal lessons. Student feedback after the first year of collaboration has been incredibly positive.

The Department for Education is backing the intention of the two Academy Trusts to enter into a more formal agreement for the next academic year. The aim is to develop a more integrated, collaborative sixth form which will continue for the foreseeable future, ultimately delivering wider Sixth Form provision across two school sites, and creating greater opportunities to more students than has previously been achievable.

Recruitment into the Sixth Form has already grown with increased numbers at both sites. We are looking forward to welcoming over 200 Post-16 students in September 2019. The range of courses on offer has increased with the re-introduction of A-Level French and Sociology. It is a very exciting time for both schools.
