Wiltshire Council is consulting on the proposed admissions criteria and admission arrangements for its Community & Voluntary Controlled Schools for the 2023/24 academic year. It is also consulting on the proposed schemes for co-ordination of admissions to all maintained schools and academies for the 2023/24 academic year.
The consultation began on Friday 3 December 2021 and it ends on Friday 21 January 2022.
The consultation documents can be accessed by clicking on the link below.
For admissions during the academic year, as per the local authority co-ordinated scheme for admissions, all applicants applying for any school place must complete an application form which should be returned directly to the local authority and not the school. The applicant may or may not live in Wiltshire.
The step up to secondary school requires students to take on more independence, to mix with a wider range of students, and to adapt to a new schedule and way of learning.
Where applications for admission at age 11 exceed the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to decide on which children to admit:
Children in public care.
Children living in the civil parishes of All Cannings, Bishops Cannings, Chirton, Devizes, Etchilhampton, Roundway, Patney, Marden, Potterne, Poulshot, Rowde, and Stert.
Where there are medical grounds for admitting the child (supported by a doctor's certificate).
Children who have an older brother or sister who will be attending the school at the time they are admitted. This to include step-, half-, and foster siblings.
Children who have siblings born at the same time e.g. twins, triplets etc.
Other children where vacancies remain.
Tiebreaker: If there are more applicants which meet a criterion than there are places remaining, priority will be given within that criterion to children who live nearest to the school based on distances supplied by the LA.
NB: The governing body will consider application forms from students who seek admission at age 10. Supporting evidence will be required to show that he or she is likely to cope academically and socially with early entry. A report from the primary school and an interview with staff of Devizes School will be required.
At the heart of The White Horse Federation is a belief in using collaboration to provide a first-class education to a wide range of children. This means that every child understands what they are capable of, and can collectively strive for excellence.
