Devizes Xtra - OSHL

From September 2007, Devizes School expanded its out of hours learning programme. The new School hours are earlier by 30 minutes (start time 8:30 am.; finish time 3.00 pm.) in order to provide more scope for activities after 3.00 pm. The activities offered are wide-ranging, including examination courses, enrichment of existing subjects and even "fun" items which are designed to attract otherwise disaffected pupils.

Miss Clune, the OSHL Co-ordinator constructs a two-termly programme three times a year. Courses can therefore run either for just two terms or for the whole year. Each course has a target number of pupils/students. (Minimum 15).

Our Programme of courses are coherent and balanced. Courses are run by Teachers, Coaches, Trainers and other suitable AOTs. Our initial target for our first academic year is for 50% of Years 7 - 11 to participate in at least one activity.

We have already seen the benefits of an extended OSHL programme in PE since gaining Sports College status. Students clearly recognise and value the opportunities already available. Staff also see the benefits of improved classroom management through improved relationships with students outside their normal working environment.

As a school we are keen for you all to be involved!
