Psychologists are committed to increasing the understanding that people have of their own and other's behaviour in the belief that this understanding improves the human condition and enhances human dignity. 

COURSE CONTENT
The Psychology (WJEC) course is designed to develop your basic understanding of the breadth of different approaches in Psychology. Through the study of psychological theories, concepts and research, you will develop an understanding of the principles and perspectives governing the subject. You will develop the ability to identify ethical issues, apply Psychology to cultural, social and contemporary issues and use a range of research methods to investigate psychological issues.

TEACHING
Group and individual work, presentations, attending conferences, videos, activities, designing and carrying out small research projects, analysing psychological research and theories and, working on past exam papers.

AS Examination
Two exams:
PY1: 1hour 15 minutes 40% of AS, 20% of A level
Approaches in Psychology

PY2: 1hour 45 minutes 60% of AS, 30% of A level
Core studies and applied research methods

A2 Examination
Two exams:
PY3: 1hour 30 minutes 40% of AS, 20% of A level
Research methods and issues in research

PY4: 2 hours 30 minutes 60% of AS, 30% of A level
Controversies, topics and applications

THE REQUIREMENTS
Standard Sixth Form entry requirements for advanced courses. It is also essential to have both Mathematics and English (Literature and Language) GCSE at grade B or above.

THE FUTURE
Psychology A level is taken by students doing a wide range of other subjects including both arts and sciences. Students of A level Psychology go on to do a wide range of courses and careers, with Psychology now being a very popular choice of course in Higher Education. A qualification in Psychology may be relevant to a number of different career options including: market research, advertising, social work, teaching, nursing, the police service and personal management. Professional Psychologists work in a variety of fields including industry, education, sport, the NHS, etc.
