Geography AS and A2 Level |

COURSE CONTENT
Students will study several modules over the two years, these are a combination of human and physical Geography modules. Year 12 modules include: Hydrology and rivers, Coastal landforms, Food supply issues and Population change. Year 12 students also go on a field trip to enable them to complete the “skills” paper. In Year 13, students study Tectonics, Weather and Climate and World Cities. They also study a further skills module. Full specifications may be viewed on AQA’s website: www.aqa.org.uk
TEACHING
Lessons will be delivered in a variety of different ways. Group and paired work is a key feature of the course, as is independent research and oral presentations.
ASSESSMENT
Homework will be set on a regular basis which will include reading, research, note-taking and essay-writing. Students will sit the two external AS papers at the end of Year 12, one A2 paper in January and one paper in the June of Year 13
RESIDENTIAL
We intend to offer a compulsory residential opportunity in Year 12 and Year 13 and this will incur a cost (approx..£200).
THE REQUIREMENTS
An interest in the world around us is absolutely essential, as is an ability to work with others and in an independent fashion. Students are expected to have attained a grade B or above in the GCSE exam.
THE FUTURE
Geography is a well respected subject in Higher Education and may be studied as a free-standing subject at numerous universities and also forms a component of many combined honours courses.
