COURSE CONTENT
The aim is to provide a broad introduction to the Business sector and to encourage the development of Business skills in realistic contexts.
At AS level the compulsory units will be People in Business; Marketing and Investigating Business (Single Award). In addition to this the following units are studied for Double Award: Promotion; Customer Services: Electronic Business.
At A2 level the units of study are Marketing Decisions; Organising an Event; Business Planning (Single Award). Plus: Business Development; Managing and Developing People and External Influences on Business for the Double Award.
SINGLE AWARD
This course covers the compulsory AS and A2 units.
DOUBLE AWARD
This course involves students studying a total of 12 units, 6 at AS and 6 at A2 level. A mixture of tests and coursework.
TEACHING
Students will actively experience Business environments. This will be achieved through a variety of approaches including work placements, links with local employers, case studies and research. Students will extract information from many sources, learning new skills and developing existing ones. They will use ICT, and will plan and evaluate their own work. Self improvement, self reliance and individual progress are central to this course.
ASSESSMENT
This is designed to give credit for what candidates can do as well as what they know. It is based on portfolio evidence, and 4 (Double Award), or 2 (Single Award) tests. Work will be set on a regular basis and deadlines for completion will be clearly stated. The Double Award is the equivalent of 2 ‘A’ level subjects, and 2 grades A-E will be awarded to a candidate who meets the requirements
THE FUTURE
Students who achieve this qualification will be fully prepared to follow a variety of Business pathways such as Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Production, and ICT at HND or degree level.
