School Uniform Policy Print

Uniform is a vital part of the School identity. We expect every pupil to be dressed correctly at all times, according to the list below.  All items are obtainable from Scholars, 2 Little Brittox, Devizes.  Tel 01380 722642. 
Shirt A white Devizes School polo shirt with the Devizes School logo.  No visible T-shirts to be worn underneath.
Sweatshirt A round-necked sweatshirt with a red stripe around the neck and new school logo. The school sweatshirt is the most identifiable piece of school uniform and should always be the first item worn over the pole shirt in cool weather.  Therefore to wear an outdoor coat directly over a polo shirt is not permitted.  Hoodies or other sweatshits, and cardigans, are not acceptable.
Shoes Plain Black, low-heeled.  No trainers, sling backs, ballet-style pumps, canvas style daps or boots of any nature.  The same footware must not be worn around school and for PE.  This is an essential Health and Safety requirement.
Socks Girls: Plain black or navy tights or socks, white ankle socks in the summer.
Boys: Plain black or navy socks - not the same ones to be worn around school and in PE.
Skirts A plain black knee length skirt.
Trousers Black Tailored trousers.  No hipsters or low rise.  Jeans, combat trousers and shorts are not permitted.  No leggings.  Belts must be plain balck and fit through the loops on the trousers.
Outdoor Coat A plain jacket or coat is required.  Denim, camouflage, leather or imitation leather jackets are not permitted.  Fleeces, Hoodies (including any with the school log on) or non school uniform sweatshirts should not be worn in place of an outdoor coat.  Scarves can only be worn with a coat.
Hats Baseball caps are not to be worn.
Jewellery Students who have had their ears pierced may wear small, plain stud or sleeper in each ear. No rings or studs are permitted in any other part of the body which may have been pierced. No streatchers of any kind.  Any excessive jewellery i.e. bracelets will be confiscated by a teacher and dealt with according to the 'Confiscation of Property' policy. If a student has an item of jewellery that they value it should not be bought into school as it will not be covered by insurance.
Make-up/ Nail Varnish  Nail Varnish and excessive makeup are unsuitable for school and are not permited. 
Hair  Hair should be a natural colour and not worn in a style which has the effect of drawing attention to the student.  Simple hair accessories in school colours only.


All items of clothing and other belongings brought into school should be MARKED CLEARLY with the owner's name.


SANCTIONS: Items such as scarves, non uniform sweatshirts will be confiscated according to the school's Confiscation Policy.  If a student does not adhere to the uniform policy for trousers, skirts and shoes etc, a letter will be sent home.  This will be followed by a meeting with parents/carers and the student's Head of House if the uniform does not alter.  If the situation continues the student will be sent home and a meeting will be arranged with the Head to resolve the situation.

P.E. Uniform

Girls - Year 7 Basic Items

  • Navy blue polo shirt, with a collar and new school and sports college logo.
  • Navy blue fleece with new school and sports college logo.
  • Black shorts
  • Plain navy or black jogging trousers or tracksuit bottoms. (No poppers or cropped’ tracksuits are allowed.)
  • Navy blue knee length football socks with three white bands at top worn for all outdoor activities.
  • White socks for all indoor sports and summer sports Gym/training shoes with non-marking soles. Suitable trainers can be bought for less than £30. Trainers costing over £50 are not good value for money for normal P.E. lessons.
  • Towel for all lessons
  • One-piece dark swimming costume*
  • Astro boots
  • Shin pads/Gum shield

Optional Items:

  • Navy blue rugby shirt (reversible white band on inside)
  • Black rain jacket with school and sports college logos.

Boys

Basic Items:

  • Navy blue polo shirt with a collar and new school and sports college logo.
  • Navy blue rugby shirt (reversible white band on inside).
  • Black shorts.
  • Plain navy or black jogging trousers or tracksuit bottoms. (No poppers or ‘cropped’ tracksuits are allowed.)
  • Navy blue knee length football socks with three white bands at top worn for all outdoor activities.
  • White socks for all indoor activities and summer sports
  • Gym/training shoes with non-marking soles. Suitable trainers can be bought for less than £30. Trainers costing over £50 are not good value for money for normal P.E. lessons.
  • Towel for all lessons
  • Dark swimming trunks or shorts*. (No Bermuda shorts)
  • Astro boots
  • Shin Pads/Gum shield

Optional Items:

  • Navy blue fleece with new school and sports college logo.
  • Black rain jacket with school and sports college logos.

The PE Department inform all pupils in their first lesson what kit is acceptable. They can be contacted by parents prior to kit purchase for advice.

In the interests of safety, gum shields and shin pads must be worn, especially in Hockey and Rugby. Shin pads must be worn in football. Jewellery must NOT be worn in ANY P.E. lessons. Nose studs, eye rings, belly piercing and other such body piercing is strictly forbidden even when covered by a plaster.

* Dark swimwear helps staff to see pupils under water. P.E. kit should be taken home and washed after use. All items of clothing and other belongings brought in to school should be MARKED CLEARLY with the owner's name.

Uniform - Second-Hand Mrs Slade, the pupil receptionist runs a second-hand uniform service.  Mrs Slade will accept items for sale on a 50/50 basis. Please bring these items in to school, clearly labelled with your name and the required price.
