 Aims Of The School

"Learning is the core purpose of our school.
It is at the heart of everything we do."

Devizes School is an inclusive school where the needs and contributions of all its members
are equally valued.

We aim to provide the very best education for all our pupils.

We believe that all pupils can achieve their potential in many different ways.
We aim to provide opportunities for all our pupils to achieve their full potential in every aspect of their learning and in their personal, social, moral, spiritual and physical development.

We believe that pupils learn best if they develop as independent learners
who can think for themselves.

We aim to cultivate self-confident, self-motivated and ambitious young people who appreciate other peoples’ opinions and can work collaboratively with others.

We believe that learning is supported and enhanced if it relates to the pupil’s own family,
environment and community.
We aim to work in partnership with parents and our local community to enrich the learning experiences of all our pupils.

We believe that the school’s curriculum should offer opportunities for all pupils to gain their best examination results and develop the skill they will need for a successful and fulfilled life.
We aim to have a curriculum that meets the needs of all our pupils.

‘active body – active mind’.  As a Sports College we believe that the many positive attributes of active sport - team work, commitment, personal endeavour and a healthy body can be used to improve the achievements for all our pupils.
We aim to foster a life-long interest and active involvement in sport, to raise the aspirations of our young people to be active and healthy citizens and to develop a clear sense of community through sport.

We believe that pupils develop better in a well-disciplined, safe and caring environment.
By nurturing the pupils’ enjoyment of learning and sense of wonder, we aim to expand their knowledge, experience and imaginative understanding of the world.

We believe that it is important that our pupils enter their adult lives able to contribute fully
as citizens in the 21st century.

We aim to enable our pupils to enter their adult lives as confident, independent and responsible people who have respect for themselves and for others.

We believe that the quality of a school is dependent upon the quality of its teachers.
We aim to continue to invest in the professional development and welfare of a highly motivated and well qualified staff.

As an ambitious school we are committed to continuously review and improve our performance.    We aim to use and improve our own self-evaluation to help the school to set and meet its challenging targets.
