Parents/Guardians who wish to apply for a place at Devizes School in year 7 commencing 1st September 2010 must complete the LA’s Secondary Common Application Form (SCAF) or apply online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk and return it to The School Admissions Team, County Hall, Trowbridge. Wiltshire, BA14 8JB by 12 noon on Friday 16th October 2009 in order to be considered in the normal admissions round.
The admission number is 223 pupils and the Governing Body will award 223 places. All applicants will be sent letters from the LA informing them of the result of their application on Monday 15th March 2010. Unsuccessful applicants will be informed by the School of their position on the reserve list.
In Year Admissions For admissions during and from 2010-11, as per the local authority co-ordinated scheme for admissions all applicants applying for any school place must complete an application form which should be returned directly to the Local Authority and not the school. The applicant may or may not live in Wiltshire.
Over-subscription Where applications for admission at age 11 exceed the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to decide on which children to admit:
1. Children in public care.
2. Children living in the civil parishes of All Cannings, Bishops Cannings, Chirton, Devizes, Etchilhampton, Roundway, Patney, Marden, Potterne, Poulshot, Rowde and Stert.
3. Where there are medical grounds for admitting the child (supported by a doctor's certificate).
4. Children who have an older brother or sister who will be attending the school at the time they are admitted. This to include step, half and foster siblings.
5. Children who have siblings born at the same time e.g. twins, triplets etc,
6. Other children where vacancies remain.
Tiebreaker If there are more applicants which meet a criterion than there are places remaining, priority will be given within that criterion to children who live nearest to the school measured in a straight line between the school and the child’s home.
NB The Governing Body will consider application forms from pupils who seek admission at age 10. Supporting evidence will be required to show that he/she is likely to cope academically and socially with early entry. A report from the primary school and an interview with staff of Devizes School will be required.
Policy on entry into the Sixth Form
Students will be admitted at age 16 into the Sixth Form if their level of attainment indicates that they will benefit from undertaking courses on offer in the Sixth Form. The basic admission requirement is a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above (or the equivalent). Some courses also require specific GCSE subject grades (e.g. to take AS Mathematics a grade B in GCSE Mathematics is a requirement). Such specific course requirements are clearly stated in the annual prospectus. The School will admit up to 50 external pupils into the Sixth Form. See Tiebreaker above.
Waiting Lists
A waiting list for all year groups will be maintained for a minimum of one term.
Applicants refused admission are entitled to an appeal before an independent appeal panel. A letter requesting an appeal should be sent to The Clerk to the Governors, Devizes School, The Green, Devizes, Wiltshire SN10 3AG
