What will I study?

Course structure

Extended Diploma = 3 A Levels
Diploma = 2 A Levels
Foundation Diploma = 1.5 A Levels

The course allows students to achieve the equivalent to one and a half A Levels allowing students to gain additional UCAS points, helpful for those wishing to continue in higher education.

Three externally examined units (four for the Extended Diploma) and a choice of centre-assessed units moderated by OCR. The Foundation Diploma is the single award, and will include the units Sports Coaching and activity leadership, Nutrition and Diet for sport, Sports Injures and rehabilitation and Body Systems and the effects of physical activity.  The Diploma is a double award where you will study additional units such as Sports Psychology, and Performance Analysis. The students who opt for the Double award will be given the opportunity to complete the Extended Diploma during the course, gaining an additional A Level.  The Extended Diploma includes Sports and Exercise Sociology, Improving Fitness and Working in Active Leisure Facilities.

Where does it lead?

This course enables learners to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in specialist areas of sport provision, sport development and sport performance, which promotes progression onto further or higher education programmes or occupational training on a full-time basis. It also promotes interaction between employers, centres and learners by teaching and assessment to real settings.
